Welcome to the Northeastern Illinois University Chapter!
|My name is Ayushi Kumar. I joined South Asian Production to support South Asian’s Creatives. South Asian Culture is very diverse. We have so many different religions, languages, and ethnicity. This is a way for us to stay connected with our roots and heritage. When it comes to culture, we are somehow always connected. Identity plays a significant role for us South Asians. Many of us who live in different countries probably have felt or been in pressure to identify themselves more with the country they live in. We bring our cultures and values in our home but sometimes forget that our heart and faithfulness should only be with the county we live in and not with the culture. Growing up and trying to match the mindsets with our parents does not always work; we try to balance it. Most of us try to understand the culture while some have never tried too. Some of us do not know the traditions, culture, values, and beliefs. It can be challenging to balance everything in society. What may be normal in this society may be unacceptable by our South Asian families like dating or drinking. Living in this society where we care too much about what others may say and not doing what we feel happy about is wrong. Now it is about the time when we do what we like, talk about all the taboo topics, support our people, culture, talents, take action on things that are not right, and spread love. |
Ayushi Kumar is a sophomore at Northeastern Illinois University. She is really excited to be a part of the South Asian Productions team.

By Ayushi Kumar In the world we live in today, South Asians may accept homosexuality and queer identities more than they ever did before. You may think now that times have changed, it may be easier, but accepting this change is still a struggle. People’s freedom to truly express their gender choice is still very […]
